other high school newspapers

1. I like the Arapahoe Herald the most because it's pretty simple and just very aesthetically pleasing to me.
2. The Arapahoe Herald grabbed my attention first for the mentioned reasons.
3. Sexual Assault: Something has to change because it's blunt and to the point which is probably the best approach to this particular topic.
4. There are 2 stories on the first page.
5. A lot of the front pages have a few pictures and some stories that go onto different pages.
6. The size of the photos might differ and they might have a table of contents
7. These were pretty similar to the around the world ones.

I love Hamilton!!!11! (front pages of the world)

Newspaper things

my favorite front page is The Washington Post, because it's simple and there is more article than photography which is good. My favorite headline is "In Turkey, the long, lethal reach of ISIS silences critics." I'm very interested in these things because it's relevant to me. These are people with lives and families and it's just kind of scary how this is going to effect all the victims who want to get away from them. 6 stories are on the front page. A lot of the pages have a big picture in the center, a horizontal small article at the very top and two or three small columns that go to other pages in the margins. The photo on this front page is pretty big and the text is pretty small in comparison.

oh yeah my dude

Current Events?????

1. The 20 dollar bill is going to be changed from Andrew Jackson to Harriet Tubman. Lew at first wanted it to be Hamilton to be taken of, but after the hit Broadway musical Hamilton people became adamant that the hero of the musical would stay. Images of women are also going to be added to the back of the 10 and 5 dollar bills, but only on one side so we can keep the good people already on there.

2. Flint Michigan arrested 3 city officials for tampering with evidence and misconduct regarding the water crisis. Neil Rockind said that it's rare because "it's very hard to find a similar case where people are charged just for being personally bad or neglectful of their job." The three men were charged for knowingly and willfully misleading the higher ups about the problems withe water, failing to order anti-corrosion stuff for the water, and tampering with the evidence. The mayor has said that they're going to drink the tap water for 30 minutes straight to prove that it's safe. Yeah no that's not going to help. The citizens of Flint have already proved that it's not safe to drink, so why would you do this? Why not just fix the problem??

3. Clinton and Trump both won the primaries and got almost all of the delegates needed to get the nomination. Although...a bunch of people who were going to vote for Sanders couldn't vote because the "machines were faulty" so I mean, it was a little bit rigged but whatever it's not like i'm pissed or anything ahahaha. Trump needs 392 delegates to be the republican nominee and Clinton needs 453 delegates. Sanders streak was halted by Clinton and Trump said that it's obvious that they are going to be the two nominees so everyone else should just give up.

4. A teachers union is suing the Texas Education Agency because the tactics they're using to evaluate the teachers is dumb and complicated and unnecessary. AISD is only using 10% of test scores for evaluation instead of 20%. A value-added model attempts to measure a teachers effectiveness by tracking the improvement of an individual students' test scores over time.

5. Volkswagen is going to announce the deal that they made to pay U.S customers. about 1 million dollars involved. The CEO said that the compensation will vary considering the newer cars are fine. The company has been polluting the roads even more by not doing emission tests on the cars, and they're probably going to have to pay for that. It's going to be a lot of money lmao.

6. Surfing dog catches waves in Port Aransas!!!
oh my goodness, a pupper. Two surfers got a dog after their daughter died and taught the sweet pup how to ride a wave, he's so talented ahhhh. Soon after they saw another talented beautiful dog and adopted that one too and taught her to surf. Im so proud! I chose this article because everyone likes dogs and I like dogs so very much. I couldn't just pass up this article! It would have been blasphemy.

Best Day in Sports

When my dad was younger and I was in elementary school, he played soccer. He was on a team called the Grackles, and whenever he had a game me and my mom would go down to the field and watch my dad play. It was a really good time for me, I met new people and I got to see my dad having fun and being active. Back then he didn't drink as much and was honestly a little happier. Those games hold some of the best memories of him that I have. When he would jog over after a game beaming and hugging me and my mom so tightly that we couldn't breathe. Cheering for him from the shade with sweat dripping into our eyes and hats to cover our faces. He was so vibrant on the field and I wish he still played. He's always so stressed and nervous now, and I think playing soccer was probably one of the things keeping him optimistic and happy. I miss that part of my dad more than I can articulate, and I want him back so badly.

my toe hurts

im using the science guy article by joe posnanski

tfw ur really gay like reallyy gay

Current Events ahh

1. It was revealed that she was strangled to death behind the alumni center on the UT campus. This is the first homicide here in half of a century. We don't know who the sources were because they decided to remain anonymous because they weren't authorized to talk publicly about the case. The sources probably came forward with the information because they wanted to person who killed her to go to jail. This story is so big because it's got relevance and proximity. It was on our university campus and it could have happened to anyone who had been in that area at the time.

2. technology employers are giving men higher salaries than women. Hired.com is a website where people can get connected with jobs that they want or would be good at, and the employer and person can talk about salary and other important things. This website can see the salary negotiations that take place, which is how they were able to do their analysis. According to the article, the causes of this inequity aren't just sexism in the workplace, although that is very relevant to this article, but also because the women were underpricing themselves. These reasons don't change how I feel about technology employers and the workplace at all, considering women are selling themselves short because it's seen as bad to be forward and assertive with these things as women.

3. Gov. McCroy passed a law that said that trans people have to use the bathroom that they were assigned at birth, but amended it, saying that they should bring the cases to the court after getting such a backlash from the public. The ACLU were very angry, and immediately criticized him for not getting rid of the law completely. Bruce Springsteen cancelled his show in North Carolina after the law passed. PayPal, Deutsche Bank, and the NBA have all moved or cancelled things that they were planning to do in North Carolina as well.

4. There has been an 11-fold increase in the number of children being used as suicide bombers. As a result, people are starting to fear children, because they might be suicide bombers. Now children are being shunned and treated badly. The term suicide bombers is being rejected because the children had probably been brainwashed by the people in charge, or otherwise had no idea of the consequences of their actions. Boko Haram is a group of Islamic extremists that are terrorizing places in Africa and only Africa. Al-Qaida attacked other countries. They are exploiting the need to get ahead economically in children and young adults.

5. I read the article about the people who are harassing the Democratic Super delegates on behalf of Bernie Sanders. People have accused Sanders of wanting people to do this, and encouraging them. This is not the case. Sanders has said that he and his campaign have no ties to the people doing this and I believe him. Bernie wouldn't do that, he considers those tactics to be under handed and wrong. It sounds like something that Trump would condone.

6. I think that sports at this time is dumb, it's not important and I don't care about it at all. The layout is gross and not pleasing at all. I would cut the entire piece

I'm too tired to be funny I'm sorry

i think the fault is with the New York Times. Obviously the NFL is going to take care of its players, I feel like that should be obvious, plus what's with the whole tobacco thing? It has nothing to do with sports, and is completely unrelated. Retract that story my dude.

Everything is terrible

Storyline- keeps the audience reading and invested in the piece. Absolutely required to write a good sports article.

Context- gives a information and backstory about what's happening also called the nut graph, it's usually in the first paragraph

Quotes- take you further into the game and also let the audience see both sides of the story as you have to get quotes from both teams

Key plays- necessary to talk about key things players did at key moments during the game, so that you have those big important moments in the story. It will be boring if you don't have those in there.

Key statistics- used to propel main storyline/plot, use most significant numbers.
